I Snatched the Rejected Groom and Climbed into High Society

I Snatched the Rejected Groom and Climbed into High Society

My mom has always been biased toward my younger sister, Nina Henderson. But before she passes away, she leaves the only house she owns to me.

Meanwhile, Nina, who has always been the apple of my mom's eye, obtains nothing but a jewelry box.

Just as I'm about to feel touched, I see comments springing in front of my eyes.

"The truth is, their mom owes someone a huge sum of money. She left Leah her house because she wants Leah to take over the debt. In the end, Leah is forced to jump off a building by the debt collector. What a poor woman."

"Nina, on the other hand, is able to marry the richest man's son thanks to the photo hidden inside the jewelry box. She gets to enjoy a lavish and comfortable life."

"It's such a shame that Nina begins cursing at her mother the moment she hears the will being uttered. Because of that, her mother dies of anger before she can tell Nina the whole truth."

I'm left feeling dumbstruck.

That night, I dig up the jewelry box that Nina has thrown away. Then, I'm able to track down the richest man's villa.

Chapter 1

The wealthy tycoon, Stanford York, froze the moment he saw me.

I handed him the jewelry box. His hand trembled slightly as he took it.

From a hidden compartment, he pulled out a photo. It was a picture of two people together. The image had faded so badly that their faces were no longer clear. But he stared at it in silence for a long time.

"Where is she?"

"My mom passed away." I lowered my eyes. "Before she died, she gave this to me."

Stanford let out a long sigh. "When we broke up back then, I made her a promise. If one day her daughter came to find me with this, I would have my son marry her."

He called his assistant. "Call Kingston back."

My eyes widened. So, what the live comments had said was actually true. The wealthy man really was going to call his son back and have him marry me.

Kingston walked in, looking impatient. He hadn't even changed out of his black racing suit.

Stanford pointed at me. "I called you back to discuss your marriage with her."

Only then did Kingston glance at me and sneer openly. "Dad, which slum did you pick her up from? Another woman trying to use her looks to climb the social ladder?"

"Shut up." Stanford shot him a look. "You spend all day risking your life racing. Who knows when you might end up dead out there? Get married and leave behind an heir. After that, you can die however you want. If you refuse, every card under your name will be frozen starting today. And I'll shut down your whole racing team too."

He stood up, his tone firm. "Your choice."

The father and son stared at each other. Realizing Stanford wasn't joking this time, Kingston gritted his teeth and turned toward me. "Fine. It's just a marriage, anyway."

It only took half an hour to get the marriage license. When we walked out of the county clerk's office, I was still in a daze. Everything felt like a dream.

Kingston snatched my phone. When he handed it back, there was an extra ten million dollars in my bank account.

He warned me, "I'm going racing. Go back on your own. Take the money and keep your mouth shut. Don't even think about telling my dad."

I opened my mouth. "Actually"

He frowned impatiently. "I knew it. Women like you are the greediest. Fine. I'll give you another ten million dollars. Stop clinging to me, and don't expect me to fall in love with you."

I tried to speak. "Actually, I don't need"

My phone chimed again. A third transaction of ten million dollars had arrived. I immediately shut my mouth.

"Alright, Mr. York. Have fun."

After Kingston left, I hailed a cab and went home. The moment I opened the door, someone grabbed my hair and yanked me to the floor.

The man who attacked me blew a ring of smoke into my face. "So, you're the one who forged the will and stole Nina's house?"

My younger sister, Nina Henderson, leaned against him. Her eyes were red from crying. "Leah, my boyfriend already had someone verify it. The will is fake.

"Even if you're desperate for money, you can't go against Mom's last wishes. As long as you sign the property deed now and give the house back to me, I won't call the police."

Clutching my throbbing knee, I pushed myself up from the floor. "Fine, I'll sign it. But there has to be a lawyer present to confirm that you are the one who will inherit Mom's house."

Nina's rich boyfriend made a phone call, and soon, a lawyer arrived with the contract.

After I signed my name, Nina snatched the deed away, checked it carefully, then smiled. "Why couldn't you be this cooperative earlier?"

She leaned close and lowered her voice. "It's just a crappy house. My boyfriend's family has plenty of properties. But I just can't stand seeing you win, you know? You're supposed to be poor for the rest of your life and serve as a stepping stone for me."

My whole body trembled with anger. Even people in the live comments were speaking up for me.

"What kind of sister is this? When they were kids, whenever Nina made a mistake, their mom beat Leah instead. Now that they're grown up, all the money Leah earned was taken by their mom and spent on Nina. It feels like Leah isn't even the biological child."

"At first, I thought Leah stole Nina's life by taking that photo to Stanford. But now, it looks like Nina deserves it."

Reading those words made my nose sting.

Just then, my phone rang. It was Kingston. "Didn't I tell you to go home? Where did you run off to? The housekeeper didn't see you, and my dad called me again asking about it."

I froze. "I went back to my own home."

He clicked his tongue. "Why are you running around? You've got half an hour to get back to the villa. Gloria cooked a feast. If you're not there, they'll start asking me again. So annoying."

Right after he hung up angrily, another call came in. "Hello, Mrs. York. I'm the York family's driver. Where are you right now? I'll come pick you up and take you home."

I gripped my phone tightly. Something deep inside my chest suddenly trembled. So, it's not like I had nowhere to go, after all.

I gave him the address and went inside to pack my things.

Nina leaned against the doorframe, watching me. "No wonder you agreed so easily. You found a man to take you in. Which old guy is taking care of you? Or did you find another poor loser and plan to rent a place with him?"

I ignored her and picked up my suitcase. "Move."

"What's the rush?" She blocked my way. "Call your boyfriend up. Let me see what kind of man would want trash like you."

The York family's car definitely wasn't cheap. If Nina saw it

Suddenly, I smiled. "Why do you care so much about my boyfriend? Are you trying to seduce him? After all, you've been stealing my things since we were kids."

Nina froze, then burst out laughing. "Are you out of your mind? With someone like you, the only kind of man you could find is old, ugly, and poor. I wouldn't want him even if you gave him to me. Leah, I think you're just too embarrassed to show him."

I pushed past her and walked out without looking back.

Chapter 2

I moved into the York residence.

The housekeeper, Clyde Hoffman, had already prepared silk pajamas, jewelry, and a full set of imported skincare products for me. After eating well and sleeping well, even my skin looked clearer.

Gone were the days of working until three in the morning, saving money by eating instant noodles, being scolded by clients without daring to talk back, and thanking my boss for taking credit for my work. Goodbye, corporate slave life.

Kingston didn't come home for three days straight. But that didn't stop him from becoming, in my mind, a sugar daddy worthy of respect.

On the third night, my phone rang. "You can drive, right? Come pick me up."

It was Kingston. The background noise was loud.

When I walked into the private room wearing a long dress, several pairs of eyes turned toward me at once. Some were sizing me up, some were mocking, and some clearly had bad intentions.

Kingston sat in the middle, swirling a glass of alcohol in his hand.

"Kingston, this is the one your dad shoved onto you?" One guy grinned as he stared at me. "She's pretty obedient. You called and she came right away."

Kingston looked at me and raised a brow. "It's all an act. I've seen plenty of women like her. Pure on the outside, but who knows what they're plotting underneath?"

I pretended not to hear and walked up to him. "Are we going home?"

"What's the rush?" He leaned back lazily. "Sit over there and wait. We'll leave after I've had my fun."

I walked to the couch in the corner and sat down. I ordered a glass of orange juice and sipped it slowly.

The lights in the room flashed wildly. The music was deafening.

While talking with his friends, Kingston kept glancing toward me. Once. Twice. Three times.

I stayed quiet and well-behaved the whole time. My lashes casted shadows across my face, making me look like a soft woman anyone could bully.

"This is hilarious. Kingston got forced to get married out of nowhere. The more he thought about it these past two days, the angrier he probably got. Now, he called her out just to humiliate her."

"Is his way of humiliation just leaving Leah sitting there? She once worked an extra 20 hours to pay for her mom's medical bills. Her boss even threw a file in her face while yelling at her, and she didn't react at all. Sitting on a couch doing nothing is basically a reward for her."

"Meanwhile, Kingston noticed his friends secretly sneaking glances at Leah. He looks pissed."

It wasn't until one of the guys came over to talk to me that Kingston suddenly set down his drink and stood up. "Let's go," he said as he grabbed my wrist and pulled me outside.

In the car, I even thoughtfully helped him fasten his seatbelt. He turned and frowned at me. "Don't you have a temper at all?"

"I do," I replied. "But not with you."

Of course, I would not lose my temper at Kingston. To me, he was just a stranger. A stranger who randomly transferred 30 million dollars to me. Even if he slapped me across the face, I'd still ask if his hand hurt.

He suddenly fell silent. Maybe it was my imagination, but his ears looked a little red.

It was already 2:00 am by the time we got home. When I came out of the shower, Kingston was standing in the hallway, seemingly about to head to the kitchen.

When he saw me, he stopped in his tracks.

I was only wrapped in a bathrobe. My hair was still dripping wet.

Kingston's Adam's apple bobbed. He looked away, then looked back again. "You" He cleared his throat. "Next time, put on some clothes before coming out."

"This is the doorway to my room," I said.

"This is my house." He frowned. "Stop trying to seduce me. I'm not interested in you. And don't think acting obedient will make me go easy on you. Just wait. I'll expose your true colors soon enough."

I was baffled.

After that day, Kingston seemed to have found a new form of entertainment. Every time he went drinking, he'd call me to pick him up. Occasionally, if he was in a good mood, he'd transfer me more money.

Looking at the growing balance in my account, I remained calm and went whenever he called.

One day, Kingston started bringing me to the racetrack. I stood by the side, watching the modified cars roar. Their tires screeched down the curved roads.

I frowned. I never understood why rich people always seemed to enjoy looking for ways to die.

Kingston drove the most aggressively. Every turn made it look like the car was about to fly off the track, only for him to pull it back at the very last second.

When Kingston finished his round, he took off his helmet, and his head was completely soaked. He walked toward me with twinkling eyes. "How was I?"

"Amazing," I answered.

He smiled. "Next time, I'll take you for a lap."

"No thanks." I shook my head. "I'm afraid of dying."

He chortled. "Coward."

The accident happened during another late-night mountain race in the rain.

I was waiting in the car at the foot of the mountain. Suddenly, a loud crash burst through the radio.

I couldn't reach Kingston. I immediately called emergency services and headed up the mountain to find him.

After walking for what felt like forever, I saw the broken guardrail and shattered pieces of headlights scattered across the ground. Kingston was covered in blood, trapped in the driver's seat, and unable to move.

I rushed forward, unbuckled his seatbelt, and tried to drag him out. But he suddenly grabbed my arm and weakly shook his head. "Just go. The car's going to explode."

"Stop talking nonsense." For the first time, I went against him. Gritting my teeth, I hoisted his arm over my shoulder and slowly dragged him out. Afraid the car might explode, I didn't dare stop and helped him down the mountain.

The rain poured harder and harder. The muddy mountain road made me slip three times. My elbows sustained scrapes, and blood oozed from the wounds.

Finally, I saw the rescue team's lights.

Only then did the last bit of my strength vanish, and I collapsed to the ground.

Chapter 3

Kingston woke up the next afternoon. When he opened his eyes and saw me, he froze for a moment.

I was sitting beside the bed, and my eyes were red.

"You've been crying?" His voice was hoarse.

I really did want to cry. If Kingston had died while he was with me, his father would inevitably blame me. He might even kick me out, and the money in my bank account could be frozen. The thought made me as sad as I'd be if my husband had died.

But Kingston suddenly laughed. His eyes lit up as he looked at me. "Leah Henderson, before this, I always thought you were only being nice to me because of money. But yesterday, you risked your life to save me. Now, I believe you really like me."

I opened my mouth. "Actually"

He interrupted me. "Since we're already married, I'm willing to give you a chance. We can try getting along first. Oh, right. Do you still have spending money? I'll transfer another 100 million dollars to you."

I immediately swallowed the words I was about to say. "Thank you. I really like you."

The live comments instantly erupted in despair.

"I want a husband who randomly transfers me money like this. Why does he say 100 million dollars like it's nothing?"

"Kingston, wake up! Don't you realize that Leah is basically a seasoned corporate slave treating you like a client? She only likes the way you drop cash!"

I ignored the noisy comments and looked thoughtfully at Kingston. This guy really lived life on the edge. If one day, he really got himself killed, would the York family still let me stay?

No.

Now that I had tasted luxury, I could not go back to living poor, enduring the exhausting life I had before.

So, I might need a child.

On the night Kingston was discharged from the hospital, I slipped into his room wearing a low-cut slip dress. When he looked up, he nearly dropped his phone on his face.

"Kingston." I knelt on the bed between his legs and looked up at him. "You're all I have. Please don't get hurt again, okay?"

My voice was soft, and my eyes glistened.

His body stiffened, and his breathing grew heavier. In a hoarse voice, he asked, "What are you doing?"

I leaned closer, and my lips almost brushed his chin. "I'm seducing you, honey."

He cursed under his breath and suddenly pulled me up, only to pin me down onto the bed.

Thanks to Kingston's hard work, I successfully tested positive for pregnancy two months later.

Stanford was so happy that he immediately gifted me a seaside villa.

Kingston became extremely nervous and wouldn't let me touch anything. He accompanied me to every prenatal checkup, all at the most expensive private hospitals. In the villa, there were three more housemaids, a nutritionist, and a private doctor.

In my fifth month of pregnancy, Kingston brought me to a York Group celebration banquet. I wore a custom-made dress with a high waistline that hid my baby bump, only making my figure look fuller. Kingston went off to socialize and told me to wait in the lounge area.

Just as I sat down, I saw a familiar figure. Nina.

She was wearing a cheap black dress and holding the arm of a balding middle-aged man. His hand kept wandering across her waist while she forced a smile. When she saw me, her eyes widened instantly.

"Leah!" She rushed over and pointed straight at my face. "Where the hell did you disappear to? Do you know how long I've been looking for you?

"Those debt collectors keep coming to harass me, saying I owe them five million dollars. Even selling the house wouldn't cover it. You knew all along and set me up on purpose, didn't you? Hurry up and pay them back!"

Nina was furious. After finding out she owed so much money, her rich boyfriend had dumped her right away. Now, she could only force herself to stay with her creditor. All of this was supposed to be Leah's burden!

The man beside her had his eyes glued to me. "So, this is your sister. She really is pretty. How about this? Let her spend a night with me. If I'm satisfied, I'll clear the rest of your debt."

Nina looked at me. Her expression shifted from anger to calculation, then finally to excitement. She reached out to grab me, but I dodged.

"Don't act so pure," Nina sneered, raising her hand to slap me. "You snuck into a place like this wearing fake designer clothes just to hook up with some rich guy, didn't you? Stop dreaming."

As she grabbed my wrist painfully, I spotted a familiar figure in the crowd.

Suddenly, I raised my voice, "Honey, I'm over here."
